On May 8, 2025, Mr. Javier Aguiar Rodríguez, First Vice Minister of Cuban Ministry of Food Industry, visited CICCPS, accompanied by Mr. Roberto Samuel Smith, Commercial Counsellor of Embassy of Cuba, and Ms. Sofía Ancheta Bordón, Economic Counsellor of Embassy of Cuba.
The visit featured a seminar involving diplomats from the Cuban Embassy, senior representatives from the Ministry of Food Industry, and representatives of Beijing food enterprises. The seminar focused on cooperation opportunities, the policy environment, and specific projects in Cuba's food sector, aiming to inject new momentum into bilateral economic and trade cooperation. Li Bingshu attended and presided over the meeting.
In his warm opening remarks, Li Bingshu the Secretary General went through the remarkable history of China-Cuba economic and trade collaboration. He noted that since establishing diplomatic relations in 1960, the two countries have jointly delivered many landmark projects in sectors like sugar, healthcare, and energy. He highlighted that CICCPS task forces have conducted multiple field visits to Cuba, established regular communication channels with local agricultural cooperatives and food processing plants, and facilitated flagship events such as the "Cuban Ambassador- Entrepreneurs Dialogue," which built a solid foundation of project prospects for this seminar.
Mr. Javier Aguiar Rodríguez expressed gratitude for the chamber's reception and introduced Cuba's current economic policies and investment opportunities. He provided a detailed presentation on the latest investment projects in Cuba's food industry and fisheries sector, supported by comprehensive project materials. He highlighted that Cuba's population of over 10 million and its geographical characteristics make food industry investments particularly attractive due to their small capital requirements and quick returns. China's expertise in food and fisheries fully aligns with Cuba's industrial development needs.
