On October 16th ,2024, CICCPS secretariat and Delegation of Cuban lawyers jointly held a China-Cuba Legal Exchange Symposium at Yingke Law Firm at Zhengda Center.
CICCPS and Cuban Lawyers Delegation exchanged views and shared experiences on commercial arbitration and cross-border legal service cooperation between China and Cuba. Mei Xiangrong, Executive President of CICCPS, Founding Partner, Chairman, and Global Board Chairman of Yingke Law Firm, attended and presided over the meeting. Wu Qifeng the Vice Secretary General also participated.
Mr. Mei extended a warm welcome to the delegation, which included Economic and Commercial Counsellor Roberto Smith from the Cuban Embassy in China and the Cuban international lawyer delegation. He introduced CICCPS's key initiatives and its work in promoting Chinese investment and trade with Cuba. Mei emphasized that China and Cuba are traditionally friendly nations with strong political ties and are close commercial partners. He expressed hope that the exchange would enhance bilateral cooperation in economy, trade, culture, tourism, and particularly in the legal field.
Roberto Smith the Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Cuban Embassy in China, expressed his sincere gratitude to Executive President Mei Xiangrong and Yingke Law Firm for hosting the event, as well as his appreciation for the consistent strong support from CICCPS. He highlighted that Cuba had introduced numerous legal provisions to protect the rights and interests of foreign businesses operating in the country, thereby encouraging Chinese private enterprises to create value in Cuba and achieve mutual benefits and win-win outcomes. During the meeting, he introduced members of the Cuban International Lawyers Delegation, including law firms such as Bufete Internacional, CLAIM S.A., and LEX S.A., noting their extensive experience in commercial law, finance, arbitration, economic consulting, and intellectual property protection. He stated that they were ready to provide timely legal consultation support to help Chinese enterprises and legal practitioners better understand Cuban business environment. He expressed his hope that law firms from both countries would enhance mutual understanding through exchanges and promote cooperation in economic, trade, and legal fields.
